Invercargill Airport, the main air transport hub for Southland, is located 3 kilometres by road from the Invercargill Central Business District and 28 Kilometres from the Port of Bluff. The airport comples with the International Civil Aviation Organisation requirements under the Civil Aviation Act 1990. Invercargill Airport is in close proximity to the Great South Basin. It is well positioned to provide the air transport requirements for servicing the exploration, drilling and mining activities conducted in this area. It has land available for the development of an on-shore base.
Facilities and Equipment:
The main runway is sealed to 2210 x 45 metres making it fully capable for all narrow-bodied commercial jet aircraft. A full air traffic control service is provided. A sterile passenger screening facility is available within the Terminal Building. Considerable land holdings are available for the expansion of aviation activities, in particular for a new heliport, and for industrial development.
